PV modules made in Europe - these are the promises that Swiss manufacturer Meyer Burger keeps. Below we present you the first Meyer Burger PV modules, we show you the technology behind them and the manufacturer's sustainability goals.

Meyer Burger in a few words

Originally known for the watchmaking industry, Meyer Burger has been setting new standards and introducing innovative solutions in the photovoltaic industry for more than 40 years. Meyer Burger PV modules are developed in Switzerland and produced in Germany - a truly European product! Meyer Burger places great emphasis on high product standards and sustainability and this is reflected, for example, in a sustainable value chain.

Technology: This is the secret of Meyer Burger's PV modules

The new Meyer Burger PV modules boast advanced heterojunction (HJT) cells with a cell structure consisting of different silicon layers. The Meyer Burger HJT cells thus absorb significantly more solar energy than conventional cells and the converted electric current flows through the module with less resistance.

Additional efficiency gains are achieved by connecting the cells with the SmartWire technology (SWCT), because the thin connecting wires reduce shading on the solar cells. The SWCT also improves cell stability and makes the modules less susceptible to micro-cracks. The module is therefore more resistant.

Versions and series: Black, 385 Wp and glass/glass

Meyer Burger is launching 3 new modules on the market with up to 400 Wp. One of them is a glass/glass module with a 30-year warranty. The second one is a visually appealing black module, which, with its 19.7 kg, is slightly lighter than the glass/glass module and the third one is a module in a white backsheet. At Memodo you can find the Meyer Burger 385 W glass/glass bifacial module, the Meyer Burger 390 W black module and the Meyer Burger 395 W module. Here are the product data:

Meyer Burger: on the way to a greener world...

Meyer Burger is breaking new ground not only in terms of performance and cell technology: When it comes to a sustainable value chain, the manufacturer also sets the benchmark very high and addresses this way one of the central issues of the PV industry.

The company creates added value locally and with the help of European suppliers. In addition, Meyer Burger takes the modules back at the end of their life cycle and recycles them almost completely. In this way, the valuable raw materials can be reused and are not lost when disassembling the PV system. Here are the manufacturer's key concepts:

  • Made in Europe
  • 100 % green electricity for production
  • 100 % lead-free modules
  • Less C0₂ emissions due to short transport routes and less energy requirement
  • Low silver content, fewer solvents and less waste water
  • Recyclable modules
  • Regional added value
  • Stable supply chains with European suppliers

Back to the roots

In addition to its high sustainability standards, Meyer Burger is going one step further and is also gaining a reputation in the field of social responsibility. In the former Solarworld production facility in Freiberg, a place where the PV industry originated in Germany, the new Meyer Burger PV modules will be produced from June onwards. This way the manufacturer will give the facility new life.

Establishing the manufacturing industry in structurally weak regions creates job positions, upgrades the location and helps consolidating knowledge and experience in Europe.

Conclusion

Meyer Burger solar modules stand for premium quality and technological innovation. Meyer Burger designs the entire value chain in such a way that it is sustainable in the long term, setting a good example. This can be seen for example in the production facilities, which are completely supplied with green electricity, or in the almost total recyclability of the modules. Regionality is a keyword for the Swiss company: with locations in structurally weak regions and European suppliers they are sending out an important signal.

Summary

  • Three new Meyer Burger premium modules in black, glass/glass and white backsheet versions are now available
  • They are developed and produced in Europe and are designed with HJT cells and the patented SmartWire technology
  • A sustainable value chain, high production standards and regional production set new standards
