Tier1
The term Tier 1 comes from the supply chain hierarchy of the (automotive) industry. "Tier" refers to rank or level. A Tier 1 supplier is a solar cell manufacturer that directly supplies a solar module manufacturer (OEM). A Tier 1 supplier can also be an OEM, meaning they use their own produced cells in their own modules.
A supply chain is generally divided into different levels (Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier n), with the number after "Tier" indicating the level within the supply pyramid.
