PID Effect
Abbreviation for Potential Induced Degradation. If the solar generator (solar module or solar system) has a positive potential relative to the ground, negative charges can accumulate on the cell surface. Ideally, these charges should flow to the back contact of the cell and contribute to electricity generation. Instead, these charges flow through the encapsulant (EVA) and front glass to the frame and do not contribute to efficiency. The PID effect can become more pronounced at high system voltages.
