Peak Power

Peak power is the maximum power that a solar module can produce under standard test conditions (STC) in a laboratory setting.

In the PV industry, the power of a solar cell is often expressed in watt-peak (Wp). Although this designation for the electrical power of a solar cell is not standard-compliant, it is useful for comparing different solar cells and modules under standardized test conditions.

Summary:

  • Peak power refers to the short-term maximum output of a PV system.
  • Common abbreviations: Wp, kWp, MWp.
  • Note: This is not a standard-compliant designation.
