Amorphous Silicon
(Abbreviation: a-Si); amorphous (Greek) (shapeless); atoms in amorphous material are randomly distributed. Due to the high absorption capacity of a-Si, a solar cell made of this material can be produced with a layer thickness of only a few micrometres (µm). This is why it is also known as thin-film technology.
