AC

Alternating current (AC) is an electric current in which the charge carriers change their strength and direction in a regular rhythm. The polarity of the current alternates between positive and negative. Typically, the current and voltage oscillate sinusoidally at a fixed frequency. Alternating current can easily be transformed to different voltage levels.

Alternating current in photovoltaics

A photovoltaic (PV) system generates direct current (DC), which is subsequently converted into alternating current (AC) by inverters before being integrated into the electrical grid. There are two types of storage systems: AC and DC. AC systems are particularly well-suited for retrofitting, meaning they can be seamlessly integrated into existing PV systems with a PV inverter. Moreover, AC systems are also suitable and flexible for new installations.
